Northwest of San Francisco, a winding river known as the Russian snakes its way south through the counties of Mendocino and Sonoma where it finally empties itself into the Pacific. This series reflects that area near the river's mouth and the towns along its banks. These little towns are filled with subdued light and phantom characters out of a Neil Young tune. The pale pastel palette that creates the makeup of the area is what made this project so appealing. Most of the people I met were runaways from far away, coming to this place to leave whatever it was all behind. Whether leaving the ranks of the military or the LA fashion world behind in the dust, these people have found refuge, a home, in this sacred land of redwoods and fog.
